Another Key Topic for CMG'09: The Virtualized Data Center Meets the Cloud

'The Next Revolution in Computing: The Virtualized Data Center Meets the Cloud' - Sr. VP and CTO of EMC Corp, Jeffrey M. Nick, will Deliver Plenary Presentation at Top Industry Event

TURNERSVILLE, N.J., April 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Computer Measurement Group (CMG), the IT professionals responsible for planning, measuring and managing the world's largest IT infrastructures, announced today that it has secured its plenary speaker for the 35th International Computer Measurement Group annual conference (CMG'09) taking place from December 6-11 in Dallas, Texas at the Gaylord Texan.

Jeffrey M. Nick, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, EMC Corp. has been announced as the plenary speaker for CMG'09. His topic, "The Next Revolution in Computing: The Virtualized Data Center Meets the Cloud" will outline a strategy of co-existence for cloud computing and conventional data centers. In this presentation, he will discuss why the enterprise does not have to choose one or the other. He will describe how to architect cloud computing not simply as a replacement for the data center, but as its reinforcement. The cloud can provide a mechanism to deliver a rich set of information services with unbounded processing power into the very fabric of the data center. Following the same reasoning, he will explain how the data center should be considered not just as old infrastructure that the cloud supersedes, but as a new unit of management that the cloud sustains and supports.

The CMG'09 plenary address will take place on December 8, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas.

Mr. Nick leads EMC's Corporate Office of Technology, which is responsible for defining the company's evolving information infrastructure technology vision and strategy. He works directly with customers, EMC's executive team, and leading technologists across EMC's storage platforms, software products and global services divisions to develop future products and solutions.

In his role as CTO, he drives EMC's internal Innovation Network, linking all of EMC's R&D efforts worldwide through the leveraging of Web 2.0 collaboration tools. He also oversees EMC's sponsorship of university research globally as well as EMC's involvement in industry standards bodies. The Office of the CTO also evaluates emerging industry trends and plays a major role in setting technical direction for EMC.

"We're extremely pleased to have Jeff Nick as this year's plenary speaker," said David Thorn, General Chair of the CMG'09 conference. "He is a recognized leader and innovator and will bring to CMG attendees a depth of experience that will be valuable to their IT roles during these economic times. We're looking forward to having him speak to CMG attendees and share his experiences on this very timely topic of the virtualized data center and cloud computing."
